Since food, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries are based in central Shizuoka, we create new technology using the knowledge of life-science series universities and enterprises and develop venture companies and new businesses related to the health and medical industries.

Innovative Technology and Advanced Research Cooperation in Evolutional Area (CITY/AREA) project

1. Project Purpose

The emphasizes of the project is on bringing out the character of an area (prefectures and government-designated cities) and creating new technology by using universities knowledge to promote new business and local industries, promoting innovative technology and advanced research in city areas.

2. Project Overview

	The emphasizes is on bringing out the social and geographic characteristics, specializing in a specific field.
	Subsidizes the main organization specified by prefectures and government-designated city as the main organizer of the project.
	Depends on each city/areas project goal and partnership of universities and enterprises experience, it widely corresponds to areas' needs with wide ranged menu.
	2006 Budget : 3.6 billion yen (100 to 200 million yen for each area total 3 year).

Project Overview

We feel physical or mental stresses because current society promotes aging, alienation, and information overload. The 20th century was the "Age of sufficient materials", however, the 21st century is called the "Age of the Mind". In this age, a physiologically comfortable life is desired.
Therefore, we have assembled the research development power of life science system universities and the technology/product development power of local enterprises to promote the study of psychosomatic stress evaluation systems and anti-stress active substances with locally produced items and developed the application of this technology.
We also organized a professional technology study group and research result presentation, promoting the potential of research development in the area and related-industry.

Cooperation in academia, business, and government

Using a partnership between universities and industry, we can build anti-stress evaluation systems by searching supersensitive biomarkers that can measure the condition of psychosomatic stresses.
We also search for anti-stress activity ingredients from locally produced items and develop application technology to apply them in food and medical chemical materials.
